Thanksgiving is over, and it’s time to bust out all of the Christmas decorations (if you haven’t already)! I absolutely adore decorating and buying some new pieces each year to add to our collection, but holiday decor can be pretty pricey, so I’ve put together a few of my tips and tricks to help you decorate on a budget.
My personal Christmas decor style is more vintage, cottage style. I do love some added glitz here and there as well. So I enjoy warm white lights, buffalo red check, burlap, distressed pieces. You get the point. Thankfully, there are many ways to achieve this look.
I was actually talking to JD the other day about how we’re trinket people. *lols* We love having little trinkets throughout the house that don’t really serve a purpose besides as pieces that either have memories attached to them or just caught our eye at a thrift store or antique shop. So of course our Christmas decor sometimes falls into this category. We have lots of little trinket pieces of holiday decor that we put out each year all from thrift stores and all generally under $1 a piece. We find new spots for them each year to keep things interesting. So this year, we used our thrift store finds to make our table setting. I let JD have full control of this one because it’s our shared space and he has creative ideas too. So I have to credit our cutesy table spread to him.
But the moral of the story is that thrift stores are always your best friend for holiday decor. Even if you find something that you like the shape of but not the color, there’s always spray paint. I personally like to take items like and spray paint them white. It gives a nice fresh look to old items.
Target is my jam for small, cutesy holiday decor. Their value section has the most adorable pieces in it year after year. My sparkly “Wonderful” sign behind our tree was $3 from the value section. It’s too cute and you really just can’t beat that price. They always have a selection of decor like wall art, candles, tiny trees, string lights, and stockings. Definitely check it out if you have already.
Hobby Lobby and oftentimes Michaels will have 50% off sales all the time. A lot of our larger Christmas decorations have come from these sales. I actually have to restrain myself because I would literally decorate every inch of the house if allowed. I’m pretty sure I’m a Christmas elf on the inside. Our fun purchase this year was this adorable pencil tree from Michaels for 50% off. I love how fun and quirky it is. We have decorated it with the ornaments yet because we are getting new flooring put down soon and will need to move it. But as soon as that happens, this little tree is getting decked out!
So go forth and decorate thy home!
