How to Style a Statement Skirt

Statement Skirt

Styling statement pieces can sometimes be overwhelming. We immediately assume we should pair something flashy with a solid, but it’s definitely possible to get more wear out of your statement piece.

This large print gingham skirt makes me heart oh so happy! It pretty much looks like I wrapped a picnic blanket around my lower half and I’m 100% ok with that. It absolutely screams summer! When it came in, I was determined to style it with more than just a white or black solid top. That’s definitely the safe way to play it and if the skirt is as bold as you want to go, then by all means wear it with a solid top.

But I decided to start playing around and find two fun, unexpected ways to wear this gorgeous number.

Chicwish Skirt (similar here and here) // Little Mermaid Tee (similar here and here) // Converse // Anne Klein Watch // Pearl Earrings // JustFab Bag (similar here and here) // Forever21 Sunnies (The pink ones are currently sold out but here are the yellow ones.)

Look 1: I thought this skirt could perfectly encompass a little Disney meets spunky when paired with a character graphic tee. Since The Little Mermaid is my life (I’m pretty sure I am a mermaid), I chose my Ariel tee. Knotting a tee to the side or directly in front is super trendy right now, and I really love the look. To make it even spunkier, I decided to throw on my Chucks. You could always wear heels, but I thought this was more fun and definitely more comfortable. Red and pink are always a fun statement together so I decided to go with these adorable mirrored shades from Forever21 and my pink crossbody bag.

Look 2: For this look, I decided to go a little retro with a twist. This linen shirt from Target is covered in fruit, which looks perfect with my picnic skirt, duh! And because we’re already so colorful, why not take it to the next level with my blue block heels? Throw on some pearls and these oh so fun sunnies and you’re perfectly quirky, retro.

I’m in love with both of these looks, and I can’t wait to play around with ways to wear it for fall too. Tell me in the comments below which look was your favorite and you would style this skirt! I’ve also rounded up some similar pieces down below. Happy Monday, lovelies!
