Hello lovelies! If you couldn’t already tell by the freezing temperatures, winter is upon us. And if you’re like me, you’ve already been grabbing for some darker shades of lipstick to compliment the chill in the air. Though you’re totally allowed to wear whatever shade of lipstick any time of the year, darker, vampy shades are always a go-to this time of year.

I thought it was only fitting to share some of my absolute favorite winter lip shades with you and break down just what it is I actually love about them.

(From top to bottom)

1. Colourpop Cosmetics Lippie in Lady

This lipstick is a cool toned maroon shade that’s bound to meet all your vampy lip needs. If you haven’t tried ColourPop yet, what are you waiting for? They’re prices are so affordable (we’re talking $5.50 a lippie) and the quality is pretty stinking good! This shade is matte but not drying at all, and it stays put shockingly well throughout the day. And one of the best things about Colourpop is that you can buy a lip pencil in the exact shade of your lipstick, so it makes the whole process so, so simple!

2. Maybelline Creamy Matte in Touch of Spice

I don’t think it’s any surprise that a Maybelline Creamy matte lipstick made it into this Top 5. I’ve raved about them so many times (here and here). But this shade is one of my absolute favorites of the bunch! It’s the quintessential 90s mauve-y brown, and it remains a firm favorite in my lipstick collection.

3. Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 107

If you need a fantastic berry shade for winter, look no further than the Kate Moss collection for Rimmel. I first heard about this shade from Zoella because she also wears it nonstop every winter. It’s a satin finish with a decent wear time. It’s also not patchy at all, which can oftentimes be a problem for drugstore darker shades. But this one goes on perfectly pigmented leaving you with lovely dark berry lips.

4. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella

Who would I be if I didn’t include a red in this countdown? There’s something so empowering about wearing a red lip. So naturally I have multiple (and I do mean multiple) shades of red in my lipstick collection. This shade from Nars is an absolute classic. Think old Hollywood scarlet red. And the formula has got to be my favorite matte formula of all time. It’s truly matte and super long lasting, all while being non-drying. You just need to try it!

5. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Beetroot

This past year, I discovered the wonder of Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipsticks. This formula is amaing! It’s a gorgeous, creamy, pigmented satin that lasts so well. And it’s 100% all natural. It’s pretty much perfect. The shade beetroot is described as a bold berry. It definitely has more purple, red tones than the Rimmel 107. And ever since purchasing it, it’s been a solid favorite!
