Transitional Outerwear

It’s almost officially fall, and that means transitional outerwear is very much a staple piece at the moment. However I do feel quite silly writing this post right now because temps spiked back up to summer weather this week in Mississippi. But don’t be fooled. I will be ready nonetheless.

I always find myself wishing we had more (or a better) fall in Mississippi because what normally happens is the tease of a few fall moments, true fall for possibly 3 days max, and then it’s either back up to a muggy 70 degrees for Thanksgiving and Christmas or we’re plunged into frigid-ness. You really just never know what you’re going to get.

So needless to say, I pretty much live for those truly autumnal days where light layers are queen. The weather is chilly but not too cold, so you need a good transitional outerwear piece that’s heavy enough to keep you cozy but not too thick when those temperatures rise later in the day.

One of my favorite options for transitional outerwear is the trench coat. The fabric is absolutely perfect for this time of year, and the silhouette is so classic! The most classic of all trench coats is a midi length, but they make so many fun options now in duster forms and even cropped versions. Mine is a vintage find from high school, and I just love this rust color (very autumnal if I do say so myself) and the detailing around the wrists. But y’all know I found some of my favorites at the moment for you!

Another great piece for this transitional time is a gilet- a fur one if you’re asking me. The gilet adds warmth to your core, where you’ll need it the most when the wind chill drops. I especially love a long line fur or sherpa gilet over a button down or a super thin sweater. It’s the perfect look with a slight nod to the 70s that you can choose to amp up with kick flare jeans and a pair of chunky boots or you could go a little more casual with straight jeans and a pair of slides. Here are some adorable ones out right now!

Can this next piece be considered transitional outerwear? I’m not too sure, but all I know is that it does where I live. And that’s the cardigan or chunky cardigan if you will. These are an absolute essential for me based on the coziness factor alone. I adore being wrapped up in a cozy cardigan on a chilly morning with a good cup of coffee in my hands. Yes please!!! There are so many options between sleeve style, length, and material that there’s definitely something to everyone’s taste!

Now get out there and get cozy!
